2019 Site Visits
A new tech hub is emerging in Pasadena, recruiting companies like Gigajot Technologies, who are developing the next generation of image sensors.
On December 13, 2019, eleven Biotechnology Leadership Program trainees participated in an “incubator-crawl” of Pasadena organized by the BLP.
First stop was Alexandria LaunchLabs, the premier startup ecosystem for life science and agtech companies. Students toured their state-of-the-art facility and participated in a fireside conversation with the founding members of Capsida, a Caltech spin-off company and LaunchLabs resident.
Walking through Pasadena, the group visited WeWork and Cross Campus, co-working venues that are revolutionizing the way people and companies work.
The final destination was IdeaLab, founded by Caltech alumnus, Bill Gross, whose mission is to turn innovative ideas into successful technology businesses. To date they have created over 150 companies.
Students were surprised and pleased by the opportunities available in their own backyard, and return visits are planned for 2020.
